Man abandons wife after birth of triplets

One Mr. Nwiziogo Nkwegu of Obegu Village in the Ozibo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has allegedly abandoned his wife, Ukamaka, after the latter gave birth to a set of triplets.

It was gathered that 35-year-old Ukamaka, who was Nkwegu’s third wife, gave birth to the triplets – two boys and a girl – at a traditional maternity home in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, three weeks ago.

Southern City News gathered that the woman was forced to approach the traditional maternity home as opposed to going to the hospital as a result of her husband’s complaint that he had no money.

It was learnt that Ukamaka, who does menial jobs to cater for herself and the children, had earlier given birth to a set of twins and another single child before giving birth to the triplets.

It was gathered that the woman had resorted to using the traditional maternity home on the advice of an attendant at the traditional home, who was aware of her plight.

However, since she was delivered of the triplet three weeks ago, the mother had been begging for assistance from well-meaning Nigerians as her husband had disappeared from home and refused to pick her telephone calls.

Help, however, came the way of the woman after a former lawmaker representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State at the House of Representatives, Chief Peter Edeh, donated an undisclosed sum of money to her.

The cash donation was made to the woman on behalf of Edet by his personal assistance, Peter Nwali.

The ex-lawmaker urged the woman to go for family planning, while appealing to the runaway husband to return home and join hands to take care of the triplets.
