The Police confirmed the report in a statement signed by the Bayelsa Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat.
The Police stated that the injured civilian is responding to treatment in an undisclosed Hospital.
The Police Image maker claimed that policemen intercepted a vehicle allegedly conveying suspected militants based on a tip off but two of the suspects resisted attempt by the policemen to search their vehicle.
DSP Buswat noted that the police arrested and handcuffed two of the suspects.
“In the ensuing uproar, members of the community gathered around the vehicle and rescued the arrested suspects and the Policemen were attacked.”
DSP Butswat said, “the crowd was partly responsible for the attack on the Policemen.”
DSP Butswat further enjoined members of the public to assist the Police in fighting crime rather than complicating police investigations.
