The policy of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to have more Nigerians take to farming got a major boost at the weekend when Cross River State Governor’s wife Dr Linda Ayade joined in yam harvest at the family farm in Obudu Local Government Area.
Mrs Ayade, a British certified medical doctor, was in Obudu for the New Yam festival.
The wife of the Governor stunned her aides when she joined farm workers to harvest the yams.
She was all smiles throughout the harvest.
Though her actions left many of her aides surprised her family members were not saying such was typical of her anytime she was home.
The 2017 Obudu new Yam festival witnessed a beehive of events as thousands of people turned out to commemorate the annual festival observed on the first Saturday of September every year.
The highlight of the event was the launch of the G. F. O Orim Foundation by the Chief of staff to Governor Ayade, Hon Martins Orim in honour of his late father, Chief Orim.
The crowd at the event with the backing of the Cross River State state governor who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Ivara Esu and other government officials was unprecedented.
