APC to field professors in Enugu local council polls

Two professors are among the candidates that would be fielded by the All Progressives Congress in the November 4 2017 local government elections in Enugu State.

Chairman of the APC in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, disclosed this while issuing a certificate of return to the party’s candidate in Udi Local Government Area, Prof. Martins Ike-Muonso.

Nwoye declared that APC was positioned to wrest control of Enugu State from the Peoples Democratic Party.

He added that the party’s primary elections produced ‘serious-minded’ candidates who would address challenges faced by the people in the rural areas across the state.

“APC is a party of serious-minded people – we are setting the pace in Enugu State with the calibre of candidates we are presenting for this election.

“Unlike the Peoples Democratic Party that will be fielding illiterates and some dafts, we are presenting erudite scholars to the Enugu people as our candidates.

“The candidate that is receiving his certificate of return today, he is a professor of economics. We are equally fielding one other professor for Enugu West council area,” Nwoye said.

Two women, Mrs Stella Nwagbara and Mrs Uchenna Ugwu, would also be fielded by the APC as chairmanship candidates in Enugu North and Nkanu West council areas, respectively, Nwoye added.

Speaking after receiving the certificate of return, Ike-Muonso said he decided to seek election as local council chairman due to the high level of povery he observed in Udi Local Government Area.

He explained that he has already designed some intervention programmes, which he intends to implement, if elected.

“I took statistics of the level of poverty and decadence in Udi Local Government Area and the apparent neglect of the place and I decided to come out with intervention programmes to bring our people out of poverty and activate the engines of prosperity in the local government.

“I want my people to experience a new lease of life of life, I want them to experience prosperity. That is why I am in this race.

“We have massive agricultural programme as part of our agenda. We want to raise millions of farmers, we also intend to create about 300 cooperatives made up mostly of women to make them live beyond poverty and help their dependants.

“We shall also give some form of subvention to the vulnerable for the entire period we are going to be in the office.

“It is all about entrepreneurial activation. It is all about making our youths employable,” Ike-Muonso said.

The local council chairmanship candidate added that, as a professor, he was not all about ‘rhetoric’.

He said, “I’m a professor of business, I’m a professor of economics, I’m a professor of diplomacy. I practice these things, its not about rhetoric.

“I am not a typical classroom professor. I am a professor that practices what I have learnt.”

  1. He is a fake professor as simple as that. Plz the mushroom school that allegedly awarded the rank of professorship to him should be investigated. Rubish !
