Yakassai, Waku, Tsav, Others Want FG To Rein In Nnamdi Kanu | Nigeria News Today. Your online Nigerian Newspaper f

Some Northern and Middle Belt leaders, yesterday, asked the Federal Government to rein in leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, having violated the bail conditions set before him by the court.

Elder statesman, Tanko Yakasai, declared that the Federal Government’s decision to approach the court over Namdi Kanu was in order.

Yakasai told newsmen that the IPOB leader was granted bail on certain conditions, adding that if it was established that he had violated his bail conditions, it was up to court to decide.

According to him, there is nothing wrong with Federal Government’s action, adding: “Kanu is under bail with certain conditions, if those conditions were breached, it was right for the government to approach the court for decision.

“The issue is purely judicial, and the Federal Government has taken the right step to address it, and current effort by tribal lords to politicise it is unfortunate “

Reacting in a similar manner, a member of Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Senator Joseph Waku, particularly called for the immediate detention of the IPOB leader.

Waku said nobody was above the law, stressing that Nnamdi Kanu should not be an exception.

He said: “Did he not violate his bail conditions? He should have his bail revoked and put back in jail. Nobody is above the law. The government should demonstrate thàt it is serious.

On his part, retired Police Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, said: “Kanu was not acquitted of the charges against him; he was only released on medical grounds. And the court gave him conditions which he appears to have violated. And he has developed a penchant for making trouble.

‘’I think the government is right to have approached the court again because if Kanu is left to continue the way he is going, other groups will emulate him.”

Similarly, National Coordinator, Coalition for Governance and Change Initiative, Okpokwu Ogenyi, advised the IPOB leader to apologize to the people and government of Nigeria for violating his bail conditions.

Okpokwu said: “He has breached his bail conditions and I keep emphasizing that an individual is not greater than a state.

“So Kanu, having breached the constitutional bail granted him, ought to have apologized to Nigerians and the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

But if he is insisting that what he is doing wrong is right, he should be immediately re-arrested and made to face the wrath of the law.’’

On his part, the National Coordinator of Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, Alhaji Garus Gololo, expressed a slightly different view, saying the issue of Kanu should be handled with utmost care in order not to aggravate an already heated situation.

Gololo, said: “Kanu is a Nigerian who knows the implication of violating a court order. But I am advising the Federal Government to handle the matter with care in order not to aggravate the tensed situation in the country.I sincerely advise that he should be called and advised appropriately.”

Government should give him another chance to make amends and by sticking to the conditions upon which he was granted bail.

“After that, if he goes ahead with his activities which are in contravention of his bail conditions, government would then be left with no other option but to seek his re-arrest. But for now, he should be given a second chance. That is our position.’’

  1. If I had the power, I will kill all these evil men, the first two courts that discharged and acquitted him were also not judicial matters? The federal govt only obeys kangaroo courts that does its bidding, we are watching. Don't waste time in arresting him let's see what will happen afterwards.

    1. My dear friend nothing will happen if d so called Kanu is rearrested. U people are only boasting as an empty barrel. At d end of d day he would be left alone to his fate. Remember MKO Abiola. His death never caused anything. However, I agree with d advice of Alh. Gololo. He should be called and given a very stern warning. He is only on bail. Any further breach should attract arraignment. Period.
