Why Redknapp wants me — Onazi

Ogenyi Onazi has revealed he is on his way to English Championship side Birmingham City because manager Harry Redknapp has long wanted to sign him and he believes his experience will help the club return to the Premier League.


Nigeria international Onazi is now expected to soon complete his transfer to England.

“Redknapp first wanted to sign me when he was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur, but for some reasons he couldn’t,” the defensive midfielder said.

“He has called me to say he wants big, experienced players to help his team gain promotion back to the Premier League.”

He added, “For me, this is an opportunity for me to get into the system. I believe that within a year, we will be playing in the Premier League.”

Onazi has previously featured for Lazio in the Italian Serie A.
