Real Madrid, who retained the Champions League trophy last season, are the holders of this particular European trophy after beating Sevilla in the 2016 final.
Europa League holders Man United, meanwhile, landed the trophy in 1991, but lost in both the 1999 and 2008 finals to Lazio and Zenit St Petersburg respectively.
This match will mark the first competitive meeting between Real Madrid and Man United since the 2012-13 Champions League round of 16, although the two European giants met in a pre-season fixture just last month - Man United winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw in California.
