INEC, Police obstacles to credible elections – Wike

RIVERS State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Police were obstacles to achieving credible elections in the country.

Wike explained that Nigerian leaders would sit up and work for the development of the country if credible elections were conducted and added that INEC and the police were helping political leaders to rig elections.

The governor, who spoke at the Government House in Port Harcourt when the National Executive Council of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria paid his a visit on Tuesday.

He also stated that nobody would clamour for the restructuring of the country if the Federal Government should adopt a just governance model.

“Credible elections will keep leaders on their toes and make them work for the people, instead of the present situation where leaders fail to work, but rely on INEC and police to help them rig elections.

“If rigging is eliminated from the system and the will of the people matters, leaders will sit up and work for their communities. However, INEC and police form obstacles to credible elections in Nigeria.”

The governor explained that delivering credible elections at all levels would also help to reduce the level of agitations in the country.

On the issue of restructuring, the governor pointed out that agitations for the restructuring of the country would intensify until the Federal Government decided to take the right steps to address developmental challenges facing the nation.

He maintained that a governance model that emphasised the equitable distribution of resources and projects would promote unity and the rapid growth of the country.

Wike stated, “Nobody will clamour for restructuring once things are put in the right perspective. Unless the right thing is done, the clamour for restructuring will never stop.”

  1. Police and INEC should give Wike chance because he has collected a sword to cut all APC members so that only PDP cast their votes and he Wike as an INEC chairman will announce the winner of the election. Shame on this man
