I am not against cultism – Cross River commissioner

Cross River State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Asu Okang, has voiced his support for cultism.

He, however, kicked against youths raising arms against each other.
Okang made this known while addressing students at a public lecture organized by the Students Union Government of the University of Calabar.
He said: “I am not against cultism because it offers you an opportunity to associate and make friends, what I am against is the raising of arms against each other.
“Youths who indulge in criminal activities like armed robbery, gangsterism, and kidnapping should key into the ECOWAS-EU Small Arms and Light Weapons Disarmament Project and surrender their weapons to enable government help them get sustainable lives”
The Commissioner disclosed that the state in partnership with European Union (EU) funded Arms Proliferation Program will rid the state of unlawful possession and use of arms.

He also appealed to the youths not to subject themselves to life in the creeks which offer them nothing of value but suffering and fear.

  1. Sir, Mr Commissioner, what is it that u are saying? Have u ever thought that cultism is the beginning of those crazy ideas and missions in our colleges? That's where the students are empowered to do whatever because they know that they are backed up not only by their other members but also by people like u who doesn't believe in the evils of cultism. Common, use ur number six now and get out of allegiance. Cultism is bad, evil, and devlish, PERIOD. And if u don't believe me, ask some other students, ask those Professors and teachers, ask those girls that were forced going out against their will with cult members, and ask even some sincere former cult members. Tanx Mr. Commissisioner. Today Wednesday 08022017 @ 6:32pm
