Government should be held responsible for Anambra church killing – ADP

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has said that governments at all levels should be held responsible for the shooting in a Catholic church in Anambra state that left several persons dead and others wounded when gunmen opened fire on the worshippers during Holy Mass.
Church Attack A Result Of 'Gang War', Says Anambra CP

ADP which is one of the newly registered political parties in Nigeria attributed the heinous killing of worshippers in Anambra to what it termed “misrule and irresponsible government we have in the country which gives less priority to the security of lives and property of the people.”
While condemning the attack, the Party said in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Engr Y.Y Sanni: “If the government was responsible, the youths wouldn’t have taken to drug peddling as to result in a drug war that has been brought home from abroad to claim the innocent lives of those living at home.
“The Action Democratic Party (ADP) condemns in a strong term, the barbaric and heinous crime perpetrated by some wicked souls who went berserk to unleash an untold havoc on the Church worshipers at St. Patrick Catholic Church Ozubulu in Anambra State, leading to the death of many people while several others sustained injuries.
“As part of our yearning, we believe that Nigeria and Nigerians should be safe and secure at all times irrespective of their location. The crime was a direct recipe of the misrule and irresponsible government we have in the country, which gives less priority to the security of lives and property of the people,.
“The information at our disposal has it that, it was a drug war between some indigenes of the community. Our belief is that, if we have a responsible government that works for the common good of all Nigerians, such deadly attack would not occur because nothing will ever push our young people into drug if government is alert to its responsibility.”
The party, however, sympathised with the Anambra people and urged the security agencies to arrest and punish the perpetrators.
“We, therefore, sympathize with the families of the affected victims, Anambra State Government and the entire people of the state, we urge the state government to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime are made to pay for their crime and justice served accordingly.
“We urge the police and the entire security forces to bring the actors involved in the crime to book in record time because justice must prevail, as we would not want a justice that is delayed which may lead to a denied justice.
“We also urge them to double their efforts in the protection of lives and property in Anambra State and other States of Nigeria because lives of every citizen are so precious.
“Furthermore, we urge all Nigerians to be steadfast in demanding for good governance and eschew all form of divisive statement as our unity must be protected at all times.”
