Widow banished for making love with another man on husband’s bed

A 70-year-old widow has been banished from her community for allegedly having sex with another man on her late husband’s matrimonial bed.

The widow, Mrs Maria Okoh, it was gathered, was allegedly caught by her granddaughter having sex with a 30-year-old man, said to be her lover, at Amaudo Nkpoghoro village in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

In Afikpo, it is considered a taboo for a widow to make love on her late husband’s matrimonial bed.

The granddaughter was said to have gone to Madam Maria’s house to deliver some food items, which she bought for her, when she saw the man making love to the grandmother.

She raised the alarm and reported the matter to some residents who reported it to the elders.

Some of the villagers were said to have taken the woman and the man out of the house, chanting songs of disgrace on them.

The villagers paraded the widow and the man round the community.

Madam Maria was allegedly banished from the community after the parade.

One of the villagers, Egwu Azubuike, said the woman would have faced greater punishment if her husband was alive.

He noted that the act had brought shame to the widow’s family, adding that she was among the most respected women in the community before the incident.

Also, according to the community’s custom, the woman will give three goats as fine to appease the land before she will be accepted back.

  2. @70? She is not just serious, even if she wants to do such it shouldn't be in her late husband's house, she can do it outside after all her man is late, but why a 70 years old woman.

  3. This is how African hurt, subjugate and mock themselves unnecessarily in the name of out-dated culture. I don't understand why they choose to make so much trouble out of such a trivial thing like this. While many of those that are shaming the woman have their hidden evils too. The world is thinking of how to provide self-driving cars, sustainable agriculture, sound health care, cleaner cities and more for the coming generation while some people are looking at how to punish someone else unnecessarily.

  4. If it were a 70 year old widower with a 30 year old girl would the same actions have been taken against him?

  5. This is commendable. This kind of culture drives the moral lesson home which is fast disappearing in today's world leading to all kinds of "permissible crimes" rapes, incest, adultery, ritual killings, embezzlement etc.

Strong cultures like these make people consciously avoid these heinous crimes.

  7. We are human. It's not the blood of angels nor prophets runs in our vain so we should stop blaming the woman. Also ageing does not mean or has anything doing with sex or marriage. Aside that her husband has late(widow) not that she is not adultery nor fornication. Whose amongst those that are singing or chatting on her are righteousness? Beautiful ones are not yet born. "My friend was disgrace at the party we went yesterday, mind you not only your friend was disgrace you too will share from the mess. The granddaughter shouldn't have call the attention of the villager, she should have take the matter home to her parents, also the villagers should have make it an adult matter not to that extent. Sex have no age limit, stop blaming the woman.

  8. @Anonymous 9:33AM; What is in this that is commendable? It is people like you that throw short sighted judgements that facilitate unending strife and problems in this world. In your wicked desire to drive moral lesson home, you punish innocent people. It is people like you that should be banished. Our societal problems cannot be solved by jungle justice or unreasonable/needless punishment.
