Nigerians won’t return PDP to power in 2019 - APC

The All Progressives Congress has said despite the hardship currently being experienced, Nigerians know better and will not return the Peoples Democratic Party to power in 2019.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said this in Abuja, on Sunday.

He was reacting to news making the rounds that the Supreme Court victory of the Ahmed Makarfi-led Peoples Democratic Party would mark the beginning of the party’s return to power.

Abdullahi noted that since last Wednesday’s victory, Makarfi and prominent PDP supporters had expressed similar sentiments while appearing to ignore the fact that the party failed to deliver on mandate given to it for 16 unbroken years.

The party spokesman explained that the PDP as a brand had since expired.

Abdullahi said, “We also note with regret, the PDP’s penchant to mock President Muhammadu Buhari with his health situation. We admit that the health of a president is every citizen’s business.

“It is however, un-African, if not ungodly, to continue to taunt a man and even challenge him to a fight at his moment of weakness. We have seen in the last few days, some members of the PDP who have boasted to defeat President Buhari in 2019.

“No matter the temporary hardship that we may be experiencing, Nigerians know better than to bring the PDP back to power so soon for fear that this time.”

The APC urged Nigerians to continue to support the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC because “whatever difficulty we are currently going through is only a passing phase.”

Speaking in a similar vein, the APC National Vice-Chairman (South South) Hilliard Eta, said the party remained focused on the mandate given to it by Nigerians.
