The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday,
passed the Not Too Young To Run bill.
The much-anticipated bill, seeks
age reduction for elective offices in the country.
After an electronic vote, 86
Senators showed their support, while 10 were against it. One lawmaker
abstained.
This now means Nigerian youths
can contest for President at the age of 35 and Governor or Senators at the age
of 30. It is a change from the initial 40 and 35 years limit respectively,
which was mandated by the constitution.
The bill also stipulates that
25-year-old people, can now legislate in the National and State Assemblies
across the country.
For the bill to, however, take
effect, it needs the endorsement of 24 State Assemblies and presidential
assent.
Not too young to run but too poor to contest for political office because of the looters and their sponsored cronies
ReplyDeleteThese senators they may have something in hidden, after most of them spent eight years as a governor in their states they migrated to NASS for uncountable years and now most of them are whether under trails or under EFCC investigation or are under EFCC's survealence, so even EFCC successeded on them they will sponsored their children with the looted funds which they were still there in proxy. If not where masses children's can get money to campaign through out the country or a state????. But they should remember (WALLAHU KHAIRUN MAKIREEN) .
