Kaduna court grants journalist detained by El-Rufai stringent bail conditions

A High Court sitting in Kaduna, Thursday in Kaduna, granted stringent bail conditions to a former Bureau Chief with Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Luka Binniyat, who is standing trial over alleged false publication brought against him by the Kaduna State government.

Justice Bashir Sukola announced that two sureties are to bring their international passports to be deposited in the court with N10m each and a bank bond to that effect to the amount of money.
The case was adjourned to August 31, 2017.
The court was, however filled with journalists, alongside top leaders of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU.
The leading counsel to the accused, Alex Marama, told journalists after the court sitting that the bail conditions were difficult but, however, said they were going to appeal for reduction of the bail conditions.

Mr. Binniyat, who had been on medication, still walked into the court room with the help of crutches, having sustained injuries from an accident.
