Fayose inaugurates presidential campaign via Facebook

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has abandoned his desire to seek reelection in 2018. Instead, he has launched his presidential campaign on Facebook.

Fayose had initially said he would approach the Supreme Court to determine his eligibility to run again for the office of governor of his state because of his inability to finish his first term in office.

The governor, whose impeachment then had been declared null and void by the apex court, had said there was need to finish his first four years in office.

See the campaign inauguration:

Fayose, who is the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, was one of the two governors in the party who spoke vehemently against the continued stay in office of the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

Ironically, the governor was also among the few governors who brought the former governor of Borno State to the office of the national chairman of the former ruling party.

The PDP had zoned the position of the party’s presidential candidate to the northern part of the country.

It is, however, not clear if the party would go back on this, but analysts believed that Fayose could be positioning himself for the position of running mate for the party’s presidential candidate.

The three organs of the party, which are the Expanded National Caucus, Board of Trustees and the National Executive Committee are meeting in Abuja in Monday and Tuesday.

  3. Fayose a joker. Which region would his votes come from? Certainly not south west. Maybe his biafra people.

  4. @anonymous 8:36, if the southwest can vote for an inept and incompetent leader like buhari, what stops fayose from having same ambition. After all he was voted as a governor, twice by your south Western brothers. Don't always make this about ethnicity. It's very sad to see someone like you harbour so much hate against an ethnic group just because your political leaders exploit divisions for their personal interest. You sacrifice the future of your children for the momentary gratification of seeing a visionless, petulant, prejudiced 'non-igbo' become your leader. Look around you, the world is moving at a fast pace; reasonable electorates vote not based on ethnicity or association, but the capacity of any candidate to provide meaningful reform to their country. Don't hide behind your screen and type unsavory remarks, be bold and tell the 'biafrans' to their face how much you hate their presence around you.

  5. Only God gives power. When Fayose's wife said before 2014 that her husband would come back to government house then I found it difficult to believe. Eventually, he came back. Only God can decide who will be our next president.
