Berger Paints Allegedly Sacks All Staff

According to reports, all staff of Berger Paints have been disengaged. The staff are said to have been on strike for the past 2 weeks because of the new living wage the company implemented.

The new wage stops gratuity payment and adds the money to staff's monthly salary, so that upon retirement, you get no gratuity. The new policy was implemented in 2015, creating an impression that they had done a salary increment.

The management allegedly didn't consult the staff on the matter before its implementation. The staff just got to know about the policy in 2017, hence the strike. They have now been sacked and told to reapply if they are still interested in working for the company.

  1. Did you get the position of management before publishing this biased and untrue story. For the first time I understand why people complain that social media is unprofessional. In line with the Pension Act of 2006 and Revised 2014, pension is statutory and gratuity is not; gratuity is based on affordability. Berger Paints stopped salary in 2015 and paid all staff salary and pension every month till date, infact staff enjoyed salary increases in 2016 and 2017. No staff was laid off or owed salary when other companies struggle to pay salaries due to recession. Many other companies have stopped gratuity payment long ago. Management even proposed to increase staff pension (the employer's contribution by 5%) and make oneoff palliative payment for stopping gratuity but the unreasonable staff wants more. What else does an employee want from his employer in this challenging economy? I hope I've been able to further inform you. Kindly endeavour to have a robust and unbiased report subsequently.

    1. Thank you for this information. I guess you meant to say that the company stopped gratuity in 2015 and not that it stopped salary in 2015.
