Osinbajo cannot replace Buhari in 2019 if president dies – Northern Elders

Chairman of Northern Elders Forum, Professor Ango Abdullahi, has maintained that should President Muhammadu Buhari’s failing health prevent him from seeking re-election in 2019 the North must retain the presidency.
Abdullahi stressed that the region must be allowed to field a presidential candidate through the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2019 should Buhari fail to seek re-election.
The don said in the situation of any eventuality, the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo should be allowed to complete the current tenure but will not be allowed to contest in 2019.
Abdullahi said, “The constitutional provision says that in the event that the president dies in office or becomes incapacitated for one reason or the other and cannot perform the duties of his office, he will be succeeded by the Vice president.
“But no one is in a position to know at what point he is going to recover fully and come back to office, or whether the unexpected could happen. The northern elders insist that Osinbajo cannot replace Buhari in 2019
“If the worst case scenario happens, and Buhari is not back on seat, the constitution is very clear that the vice president takes over.
“And what we then expect is that he will take that tenure to its logical end and from there, the politics of power sharing will take precedence over anything else.
“When the unexpected happens, in 2019 we will be back to our position that the north should be treated equitably and fairly.
“And we expect that another northern candidate will emerge as presidential candidate on the platform of APC.”

  3. Who are this faceless northern elders, these empty headed northern elders are the ones wishing Buhari dead, can they focus on how to stop the Almajiris graduating to BH.

  4. In the first place, Yorubas still need to get the fact that northerners are not their friend, they hate Yorubas, but Yorubas still always help these people and continue to welcome them on their soil. It's sad for this evil amalgamation of Nigeria. Finally, northern leaders are barbaric and backward, they don't think like other regions, they are too tribalistic, and are also religious fanatic, how can the nation move forward with these kind of set of people. They don't think about how and who is fit to move the nation forward but about voicing region, tribe and religion. Yoruba teamed up with buhari to win tbe election for the betterment of Nigeria, but these people now forget that and voicing revision and hatred notion about Yorubas. That's why Yoruba elders need to think, these people smile at you because you are allys in looting, but deep down, they hate other regions. Why to blame igbos if they want biafra, northerners has not demonstrated any behavior of civilization for decades since independent. In all, it is better to allow thise northern wolves be separated from civilized people b/c I see no meanful growth in that country as long as north remain, these kind of idiotic ideas, comments, and behaviors will continue to come from so call northern elders.

  5. This is the same sentiment that tore PDP apart. This northerners are not for the betterment of this country. They are the people that benefit from the chaos and general instability more so because they don't have or believe in modern civilization. They benefit from multiple exchange rates system and lack of advancement in technology. It is time that other regions in Nigeria wise up and push for meritocracy at all levels and institution; if these northerner will not allow that then we go our separate ways.

  6. Lol. Animals in agbada talking of retaining power instead of praying for fast recovery of their boss. If the Yoruba's allow them to ousted Mr. Osibanjo, that means the Yorubas will ever remain cowards and pupets to them. And, if the Yorubas try to resist, that will be good because it will help in disintegrating the Zoo called Nigeria.

  7. Our best bet is to divide this country once and for all. Yoruba, Yoruba, Yoruba better think well oooooo. Hausa people never like you. Better be with southeast now. South must be united now. Hausa are evil. The country can never ever progress.

  9. We are cowards, childish and behave like children in Nigeria. It's only in Nigeria you read about this power rotation - presidency must come from the north or the south. Only in Nigeria! Why can't we peacefully divide the country into three main ethnic tribes: Hausa-Fulani, Yoruba/Benin and Igbo/Ijaw peoples? Why can't we save ourselves continued killings, massacres and destruction of lives? Only in Nigeria, do we see these kinds of stupidity and foolishness. And this is one of the main reasons Nigeria will never develop and see progress of its people. Never, if we continue in this status quo and stupidity.

  11. It is tragic that all the so called elites think about holding power and not how to use it for the benefit of the people. This discourse is a non issue as Yorubas are not power mongers as they are known for equity and fairness. If, God forbid, the unexpected happens, Osinbajo will only complete the present term and let this infamous zoning take its course

  12. This is a proof that this country is sick, not only the president.
The Hausa's are only interested in retaining the government, even if anything happens to Buhari they don't care, as long another hausa or fulani take over. Even though they can see with their eyes that Osibajo is doing well, tribalism will not allow them to recognize it. Even though hausa has been in power over 30 years of backwardness.I think Yoruba will learn from this.
Atiku, Babangida, kwakanso e.t.c will soon show face clamouring for presidency, after incapacitating Osibajo. Dance of shame

  13. Can somebody answer this question. In 1999 why was the Yorubas clamouring for power change and not necessarily Nigeria's development? Those who believe that the North cannot be on their own is living in the past. The North has outgrown that level. Those who believe that the North by sayingthis are not considerate are also not just.

  14. Why are the Yorubas and the Hausas not commenting? These tribes have been active in castigating or criticizing anything that has to do with Biafra or IPOB or Niger Delta or Ijaw or Igbos in fact they have even nicknamed Igbos Biafraud. Anyway, this statement by Prof. Ango Abdulahi has proven that the only reason why APC was created is for the selfish purpose of perfecting the northern born to rule syndrome. It was never for the betterment of the nation. That is the reason why they came up with all sorts of corruption charges against GEJ and the people that worked with him of which no court has found any of them(GEJ & his team) guilty to date instead most of those cases are thrown out of court for lack of merit. That is the reason why the South-south and South-East will never allow APC to thrive in their region because of the selfish interest that brought it to life.
