Official: Governor Ambode Bans VIOs Permanently From All Roads, Bans FRSC From State Roads

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Tuesday said the withdrawal of the Vehicles Inspection Officers from all Lagos roads was permanent.

The governor also asked the Federal Road Safety Corps to restrict their operations to highways and stay off state roads.

Ambode spoke while inaugurating the pedestrian bridge, lay-by and slip road at Berger bus stop.

The governor said VIOs and FRSC contributed significantly to gridlock in the state, adding that his government would employ technology to track and monitor vehicle registration and MOT certifications.

“The Vehicle Inspection Officers have been asked to stay off our roads permanently. We also advice the Federal Road Safety Corps to stay on the fringes and highways and not on the main streets of Lagos.

“It has become evident that these agencies contribute to the traffic challenges on our roads. We will employ technology to track and monitor vehicle registration and MOT certifications, ” Ambode said.

  1. Situation in Port-Harcourt is the worst with these two agencies extorting money from drivers, and yet such steps are not taken here because there's serious connivance with concerned Authorities.

  4. Good decision. I hope other governors will do the same. These agencies are today, more concerned about their personal interest than the general good.

  7. This makes sense....to an extent. My question is how are they going to handle the coffins on wheels that some people call vehicles?

  8. Good decision. In the first place are FRSC suppose to be on the streets? There jurisdiction is the Federal roads and not the streets.
