Fasting, prayer alone can grow Nigeria – Doyin Okupe replies Osinbajo

A former media aide to Nigeria’s immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, has disagreed with Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on his comment that prayer and fasting alone cannot help grow the country.

Osinbajo, while addressing civil servants in Abuja pointed out that prayer and fasting alone cannot help grow Nigeria if the needed hardwork is not put into it.

But Okupe, reacting via his twitter handle, @DoyinOkupe, quoted some portions of the bible to back up his claims that prayer and fasting can actually help Nigeria out of the current economic situation and other crisis.

He wrote, “I beg to disagree with VP, yes there is no substitute to hardwork but that alone can’t make a nation great but fasting and prayer certainly will.

“We can neither limit the extent of God’s power nor can we compartmentalize his area of influence. God is sovereign. He can do any and all things.

“Jehoshaphat army did not have to fight. They did not lift a finger. God fought their battles. They did not have to lift a finger but yet had victory.

“2nd Kings chapter 3 :17 KJV: ‘For thus saith the Lord, yea shall not see wind, neither shall yea see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water.”

  3. Mr DoyinDoyin, VP said fasting and prayer (A LONE) is not (ENOUGH) to take NIGERIA out of resetion, not that fasting and prayer cannot help. Go and read the VP's comment again

  4. Doyin, do you have to force yourself to be relevant? Must you repeat what we all know the VP is saying? Please know this, you were given an opportunity by God to be relevant but you fluttered it away. You had the chance to reveal what is truly going on instead you kept mum!
You can not say all that is being revealed now you didn't know anything about.
Do yourself a favour and subscribe to the whistle blowing scheme and make yourself useful and probably get rich that way.

  5. Fasting and Prayers done by Nigerians in the past were made ineffective by the likes of Doyin Okupe who collaborated with looters. Now the people must buckle up by not giving present looters a free reign to further drag the country down like past administration

  6. They fasted and preyed on our funds and looted us blind. If you fast and pray without work , you are simply on hunger strike. They always use religion and ethnicity to cover our faces. Ko le werk.

  7. This is the reason why this country has been in a terrible mess: because of such past leaders like this that Nigeria had had. It is unfortunate. Instead of helping Nigerians to take charge, these kind of bad leaders use religion and ethnicity to cause delusion and confusion such that they can steal easily.

  8. It is a shame! The bible says faith(prayers & fasting) without work is dead! Our leaders have mastered the art of using religion & ethnicity to perpetuate evil & division among Nigerians. They told us to fast & pray for d country while they eat away!! Dr. Doyin Sir!I disagree with you totally.

  10. Mr Okupe read your bible and get the full interpretation. ...The servant of God will always speak the mind of God.... When you read that passage that you quoted you will see that God gave them water to they can gain strength to fight the battle ahead....He did not kill the enemy without them fighting and Elisha promised them that God will deliver their enemies into their hands....mean they will have to use their hands otherwise they cannot overcome....God gives the power to make wealth....so anyone who decides not to use the power given to him or her will not make wealth....so my conclusion is that Mr vice president is very correct to say that there is responsibility after prayers have been answered
