Biafra: Why Igbo people should be allowed to leave Nigeria

The Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, Dede Uzor A. Uzor has given his reasons why Ndigbo should be allowed to leave Nigeria.

In his statement, Dede Uzor declared that the ECA had decided to throw its weight behind the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and others to fight for a state of Biafra.
He said the current administration does not recognize Ndigbo in any way.
According to him, “Going by the position of the present administration of General Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Nigerian citizens into various strategic positions, Ndigbo remain grossly marginalized and disappointed.
“The effect of what led to the civil war remains unresolved till date.

“For instance, no Igboman is in top four echelon in the strategic security apparatus of the nation, ranging from Chief Of Army Staff, COAS, Chief Of Defence Staff, CDS, Insoector-General of Police, IGP, Director-General of State Security Services, D-G SSS, Specurity Adviser, SSA, Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, Immigration Service, Prisons Service, NAFDAC, NIMASA, Aviation, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, among others.

“Does it mean that no Igboman is qualified or educationally sound to hold such a strategic positions? These are the issues behind the continued agitation of ndigbo for restoration or actualization of Biafra.

“Since these fundamental issues are yet to be addressed, we in the ECA would want to align ourselves with some prominent Igbo personalities like Dr. Alex Ekwueme, second republic vice president who are in support of Nnamdi Kanu’s continuation with his clamour for the restoration of Biafra.

“We want the Yorubas and other like-minded people, including the South outh to continue to throw their weight and support behind Ndigbo since no individual or group have regretted supporting Ndigbo and I must emphasize that Ndigbo remains trusted allies to any group of individual who wishes to align with them.”

  1. You people are just opportunist and political jobbers. So you mean because the Igbos are not appointed into your choice positions is the reason for wanting succession? Laughable because when Jonathan was the president 70% of all positions were occupied by the Igbos...should I will name a few? SGF Anyim Pius Anyim, Chief of Army Staff (Ihejirika and immediately followed by Minima), Aviation (Stella Oduah immediately followed by Chdioka) Petroleum - Allison Madueke, CBN -Emefiele- afer Sanusi was fired, Deputy Senate President and still continuing in APC government eventhough PDP candidate,Finance Minister Okonjo Iweala, Labour Nwogu, and 15% goes to the South South while 10% goes to Noth and 5% given to South West.

So in truth and reality when Jonathan was the president the Igbos got majority of the appointment in government and there was no Ipob or cry of succession but as soon as the wheel turn the opposite direction, then we hear of marginalization etc.

The Igbos can not honestly say that because South East was not getting federal government attention and the roads and infrastructure were bad thats why they were marginalized, because the entire country is affected and the roads and infrastructure were bad allover the country except Lagos whose state government was responsible enough to use its own money for developing Lagos (which the South East governors did not do)and were busy falling over heels in praising Jonathan and collecting feseral allocation and converting them into personal accounts.

If the so called Biafra agitators are really sincere and not just deceiving their gullible kinsmen, they would have used tje opportunities available during the 6 year reign of Jonathan to turn things around for the South East and not crying for Biafra immediately they lost out politically.

The current government has followed the provision of the constitution in federal appointments by appointing ministers from each state, however the president has freedom and discretion for appointing people of his choice as personal aids and advisers.

In summary, If the agitation by the so called Ipob for secession is because of lack of development and infrastructure, then they are not tje only one affected as the entite 5 geopolitical zones are underdeveloped but if agitation for Biafra is because of political appointments, also they can not complain because they enjoyed 6 years of free reign under Jonathan without other regions protesting on the streets.

My humble advice is that the igbos should shed hatred and pride and reach out to other ethnic tribes across the Niger for alliance gor political prominence if their main problem is to rule Nigeria because it can only be achievable in a Democracy and by the ballot box through majority votes.

    Ka Chineke Mezioku.
