Senators will regret their childish behaviour towards Buhari - Itse Sagay

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, has warned the Nigerian Senate that it will regret the decision to shun screening of the Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs.

He said, “That action is childish and irresponsible. Do they think Buhari is a man that can easily be threatened? My God! How can people of such character occupy the highest legislative office in the country? Nigeria is finished.

“It is a great mistake and they will regret it.”

“Where the Senate is required to approve a person for a particular position and they refuse to do it, the person could continue to act depending on the nature of the appointment.

“However, if the nominee is coming from another sector, just like in the case of the RECs, it means they cannot act. However, people below that rank in INEC can continue to act as RECs all over the country as it has been done.”

“What this action means is that the Senate is being occupied by the most unserious set of Nigerians in history. Nigeria is currently at its lowest level because we have people who have no sense of responsibility, who have no feeling and are there for just vanity and are ready to bring down the country in order to feel important, it is the worst case of abuse ever.

“Let them do what they want, they will regret it.”

  3. Sagay, be careful what you say. All I believe you can advise is for everyone to do their job properly, and that includes the President. It's wrong of you to be in the belief that whatever the President says is right. Caution, okay?

  5. Prof. Itse Sagay, it is very interesting to note that you advise the president on corruption related issues, However, an appointee of the president has been accused of issuing bogus contracts, was summoned to come and clear his name but blatantly refused to. It has escaped your mind to advise the president on that. I should believe that the people close to the president should be used as scapegoats so that every other person in Nigeria will know that this corruption fight is all inclusive and not selective.

Am not holding brief for the senators for God knows their hour of reckoning is very close at hand, however, if appointees of the president cannot respect summons from d legislative arm on matters that affect the entire nation, please how do you expect the legislature to respect the presidency. Respect they say is reciprocal. It's give and take.

Please remove the Log in your eye so you can see clearly to remove the spec in your neighbors eye. Thank you sir prof.

    1. This current Nigerian Senate have been demonstrating since inception such self-serving childish behavior that I as a person has no respect for any of their decisions on any issue. They only remember oversight function when they are denied share in a 'perceived booty!' They use a legitimate constitutional power to pursue personal vendetta. Baba chair is not sharing in the proceeds of what the senator from his area feels he should be part of hence the noise in the Senate about improperly awarded contract. Senate is harassing Hameed Ali because the Customs seized one of its illegally imported vehicles! This Senate is a disgrace!!

  6. The prof is right, since Senate have been saying sapration of power. Why are they forcing PMB to sack MAGU? ???. And surely most of them will regret. Let PMB brings the matter to the federal exacutive council meeting, to approve them just as they did for IG,
