Recall that shortly after Buhari embarked on his vacation few weeks ago; rumour had it that he was dead.
This was further fuelled by the fact that Buhari, who was expected back in the country last week Sunday, sent a letter to the National Assembly same day extending his 10-day vacation in the United Kingdom, UK to enable him complete and receive medical results.
In a bid to douse tension, both the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo and the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed had at different times said Buhari was “hale and hearty.”
However, the wife of the President, who arrived from Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, urged Nigerians to pray for her husband.
Reacting to the controversy surrounding Buhari’s health, Ekwueme wondered why Nigerians should pray for a man who is ‘hale and hearty.’
Addressing newsmen in Calabar, Cross River State, yesterday, the former Vice President said, “We have conflicting reports about the president’s health. The Minister of Information says he is hale and hearty, but his wife says we should pray for him.
“So if he is hale and hearty, I don’t know why she said we should pray for him. Whatever it is, we ask God to look after him. We want Nigeria to be at peace and to make progress and see how we can get out of our present difficulties.
“We really need prayers. We are in great difficulty. People are suffering. There is hunger in the land and it is not very encouraging. So we need God’s intervention to help us get out of it.”
He also urged Igbos to take up the fight for Presidency from where he stopped in 2003.
Highlighting how he pushed for the Presidency on two different occasions but failed, Ekwueme expressed hope that Igbo would take up the mantle and ensure that the dreams and aspiration of Igbo nation in producing a president were realised.
Ekwereme said, “I was Vice President until December 1983. Going by the old NPN order, I would have contested for the number one position in 1987, but the military intervened in 1983 and the civilian regime was cut short.
“I tried again in 1998 and (Olusegun) Obasanjo was released from prison and he came and won, supported by his colleagues in the military. I tried again in 2003 and the same thing happened. I, therefore, pray that the other people (Igbo) can take it up from there and make progress.”

They played the ostrich and lived in denial while everything pointed to a failing economy. God will not forgive them and their supporters

I'm a Yoruba man but still a Nigerian, u are an Igbo man and u are still a Nigerian, or Hausa and still a Nigerian. I wasn't taught to abuse my elder the way we do these days. VP Ekwueme is a statesman either corrupt or not and we should accord him that respect. We may be angry at them but what VP Ekwueme said has not gotten to naming calling or abusing not disrespecting him. He's not passed his boundary. U need to understand the angle He is speaking from. We need transparency in this country called Nigeria for this great Nation to move forward to being great again. The government needs the trust of Nigerians to get the country turned around and without government transparency, there may not be the trust that is needed by the government. We need not hide the true situation or condition of our leaders. President Buhari is the President of Nigeria for all Nigerians and He is responsible to us all and so we all need to know without any restrain whatever goes on with him and his health. We have the right to know and when we are not told, we feel that the government under him is not capable to lead us out of this present bad situation because being truthful and transparent is the beginning of nation cleansing, building, and nation's success.
