Pay 6 months arrears or risk God’s wrath - Cleric warns Bayelsa govt

T. Y. Emmanuel, a clergy, has urged the Bayelsa state government to clear the six months salary arrears owed to workers in the state in order to avoid God’s anger.

Emmanuel gave the advice on Thursday in Yenagoa while delivering a sermon titled ‘Make God Your Refuge.’

The sermon was delivered in church service to commemorate the first anniversary of the second tenure of Seriake Dickson, governor of the state.

Emmanuel, who was the guest preacher at the thanksgiving service, claimed that God had asked him to inform the governor to pay workers properly.

“God is angry when you don’t pay workers. God has asked me to tell you that hired servants should be properly paid,” he said.

“The cries of the hired servants have come to God and God has heard them, misapplication of riches is what poses danger, we need wisdom from God to function.”

He said leadership was given to man by God for the purpose of service and benefit to mankind.

Emmanuel called on the governor to acknowledge the essence of God’s purpose for instituting government authority for man.

“When God gives a man leadership, there is an assignment he wants to fulfill, every government is of God, though it might have human mistakes,” he said.

The cleric who quoted amply from various books including Psalm 127, James 5:1-5 and Deuteronomy 24:14-15 in the Bible to exemplify his points, advised the governor to take solace in God.

Dickson acknowledged ‘God’s hands’ in his re-election for second tenure in office.

He told the people that even things were tough, his government was making efforts within the limited resources available to enhance the welfare of its workforce.

“Our dreams are so high that you can’t even use a ladder to see. In the midst of recession, we are building the best schools, roads and hospitals in the state,” he said.

  1. Lies Dickson, All Lies. which school have you built since you came into office? Are you referring to your personal university being built with state funds? which hospital have you built? just name one primary health or secondary health centre that your administration of five years have built, equipped and made open to the public use. Name the roads you have built Liar Dickson. Those living in Yenagoa can bear me witness. All the internal roads have eroded off and awfully bad no vehocle can pass through these roads. What about the Sagbama to Ekeremor Bridge and roads that we only hear you are doing but until today nothing is going on. How long does it take to do 100km road? May God judge between you and the people you have brought under such despicable misery. You cannot be kidding to tell me you owe 6months salaries of workers of a small state like Bayelsa which allocation is almost triple the likes of many northern and south western states even in this recession. And i pity my People, Oh Bayelsans, I cry aloud embittered by the waste of your leaders. When are the Ijaws gonna wake up? when? Dickson has enslaved his own people, selling their birthright to strangers (Hausa/Fulanis Herdsmen) by forcefully giving out the state's lands to them. Can you imagine Fayose or any Yoruba or Igbo governor do that in a show of shame? I heard Dickson boasted that there is nobody in Bayelsa that can challenge him for whatever he does as a governor of the state. No! not even the man from Otuoke. And why will he? They are buddies. Hmmmmm. So sad. But people why is anyone ascending to the throne of power particularly in Nigeria that foolish?
