2Face Idibia cancels planned protest due to 'security concerns and public safety' (Video)

Nigerian music superstar, 2face Idibia on Saturday night cancelled the planned protest against FG due to security concerns and safety consideration.

2face wrote on his social media handle alongside a photo of him looking downcast, he wrote, “Dear Nigerians!!! Due to security concerns and public safety consideration. I hereby announce the cancellation of the planned March”

Full text of his announcement follows:

” Dear Nigerians, after due consultations, it has become clear that the one voice protest scheduled to hold in Lagos and Abuja on Monday, February 6 is under serious threat of hijack by interests not aligned with our ideals.
” The point I am intent on making is not worth the life of any Nigerian. It is motivated by the need to negotiate a better deal for the ordinary Nigerian.
” I therefore announce the cancellation of the planned protest.
“We would share further information in due course. We appreciate the massive support .
“I am convinced our voices have been heard.
May God bless you all, may God bless Nigeria.”

On Saturday TuFace had said astronomical increment of goods and services as major reasons for the nationwide protest slated for tomorrow.

In a Facebook post, the musician listed prices of 22 basic items that have increased by over 100 percent since President Muhammadu Buhari took over.

The post had been shared by over 2,000 Facebook users as at 9:45pm yesterday with many of them expressing support for the exercise.

He insisted the anti-Buhari protest on despite warnings by police authorities.

Some of the items include rice, cement, gas, fuel, flour, sugar, milk and guinea corn, among others.
The protest under the One Voice Nigeria initiative, according to him, will draw attention to the sufferings of Nigerians with a view to forcing government to ameliorate them.

Tu Face urged protesters to wear clothes with colour green and troop out in their thousands on the streets nationwide for the march.

  5. Ones again, God has shown his power over evil against the government of my amiable president Mohammadu Buhari. Baba Allah will continue to be on your side. A protest that has been hijacked by vulture politicians who make their ends by seeing innocent poor Nigerians death. People like Odumaki, fayose and the likes....etc Very soon you will hear they are disappointed, just because the foolish 2face decided to chose the honorable part. If not madness in the person of Odumakin and fayose, who did not reason enough to know that a musician can not used them instead they used the musicians. Remembered the 2012 march against fuel subsidy in Lagos? Who organized and how was it carried out. From today note that NO WEAPON FASHION AGAINST PMB SHALL PROSPER IN JESUS/ALLAH MIGHTY NAME, AAAMEEEN/AAMIIN

  6. "I think it is better for them to organized a welcome party for James Onanefe Ibori", instead of protest against the Buhari's government.
Tomorrow they will cry that corruption is Nigerians main problems.
Bunch of people who does not know what they really want.

  9. Anonymous 6:56, why don't you take over from the guy? Simply approach him and offer to hand over the lead to you in addition to dulling out some millions of Naira support you. Go ahead. The guy is still young, just married recently or you don't want him to enjoy his life and God given money. You can't rise against the mafians in Nigeria and remain the same after. So pls, allow the boy to be. The protest has already been done not minding that street procession did not take place. The boy is pained by the economic situation simple.

  10. Your intention is clear, your bravery is acknowledged. This gov will not provide a security protection for this noble ideas. To even plan the protest is already a massage to the gov that thing are really bad. The Favour of leadership has left this gov. God will help us.

  11. Tuface that helped raise awareness is a 'coward' but you that did nothing are not? Do you now see why Nigeria has so few helpers? Who would want to die for a people who specialize in stoning their defenders and hailing their oppressors? Did you watch his video? Did you notice the bags under his eyes? Did you see the stress he was under? Do you know how much threats he has received? How much insults? And rather than appreciate him you open your ungrateful mouth to call him a coward! The same mouth you would have used to insult him if anybody had died in the protest.

    1. You are a sensible person. I can't imagine anyone insulting tuface, a rich celebrity who rather than relocate to USA OR uk is trying to speak for the common man here in Nigeria. God will bless Innocent Idibia for his honorable efforts. Amen.

  12. His idea is great but being unsure and unprepared is disaster. How could he be so naive 2 call off d protest @ d dying minute. He has succeeded in setting ppl who indicated interest against d gov and he is backing out Infact dat writer is right 2 call him a coward, it's better he move 2 USA dan 2 be here and causing confusion.
