The cry of the baby at about 6:30 pm in the Machina area of the state drew the attention of passersby.
Concerned persons alerted the police who came to her rescue and reportedly took the child to the hospital.
The state Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Mr. Abdul Jinjiri, told newsmen in a text message on Friday that the police has launched manhunt for the mother, but has not been found yet.
Jinjiri said it was true the baby was found abandoned at the stated location but was rescued by passersby.
He said, “There is no reason why a mother should abandon her baby.
“I can confirm to you that there was prompt intervention from concerned Nigerians and the baby is currently doing well and healthy.
“She is presently in custody of the National Commission, Hizba Teachers hospital.”
