Group wants Fayose removed to answer charges on arms allegations

A pro-anti-corruption group, the Coalition for Good Governance and Anti-Corruption has called on the National Assembly to immediately invoke the doctrine of necessity to necessitate the removal and subsequent prosecution of Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose over what it described as abuse of office.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, National Secretary of the coalition, Comrade Audu Joseph said it has become imperative to remove the governor over several allegations of corruption and criminal conducts surrounding him. Joseph said failure to impeach Fayose within or after 14 days will draw mass protest from Nigerians. He said the coalition has the mandate of 34 Civil Society organizations that are on standby to mobilize not just their members but also Nigerians from all walks of life if the government continues to pander to Fayose’s antics as opposed to heeding the calls by Nigerians.

He said the Coalition would ordinarily have asked the Ekiti State House of Assembly to begin impeachment proceedings against Fayose for gross violation and breach of the constitution but realised that all its members without exception are compromised and intimidated to an extent that they cannot even properly treat the state’s budget before passage.

He said, “This is proof that the Ekiti State House of Assembly can no longer perform its functions and the National Assembly should consider taking over those functions to ensure that the needful is done.” He said, “To the National Assembly, we demand that a declaration of the doctrine of necessity to waive Fayose’s immunity is non-negotiable at this point such that people enjoying immunity can be allowed to answer to criminal charges like the current situation where security funds were embezzled and millions of Nigerians including the armed forces had to pay the supreme price.”

Speaking further, he said: “In the last quarter of 2016, details emerged of how N4.7 billion naira being part of the stolen $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase found its way into Ayo Fayose’s Zenith bank account after the money was ferried across the country in a private jet and bullion vans, according to Obanikoro’s testimony after he turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).” “Just a few days ago, on December 29, 2016 another audio surfaced of Fayose with his partner in crime, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, in which both men discussed without remorse, about how they compromised the December 10 legislative election re-run in Rivers state.”

“Not once did either of them acknowledge the magnitude of the crime committed, which included the murder of some policemen in addition to the now habitual sabotaging of the wishes of the electorates.”

  3. You people are the most unreasonable people in the world. So you are dead when the close allies of Buhari like Amaechi, Bashir Lawal,Magu are accused of kwaraption right? Those who are easily removable since they are appointed by the president. Now you want an elected governor removed when his state house of assemble has not found him impeachable? Or you people are so daft that you think its the responsibility of the National Assembly to remove a democratically elected governor of a state. Please go and read your books.

  6. I don't know Fayose as a person neither am I a party to fraud. But the truth must be told. Impunity is what APC led Jihadist are asking for and it's not good for democracy. Comrade Audu Joseph is a an ambitious fool who is seeking relevance and acting the script of the Jihadist govt of Nigeria in return for money and fame. I urge all Nigerian youths to ignore the idiot and the peanut money that they hope to share to Nigerian youths who will be lured to the street on daily basis to protest. The interest of the sponsors is to silence the opposition spirit of Fayose and Wike so that Nigerian will totally be at their mercy, but God will frustrate all their evil plans this year in Jesus name. If they love Nigeria so much and hate corrupt leaders like Fayose, why didn't they protest also against Amaechi and others who are accused of corruption? Why didn't they protest against killings in Southern Kaduna and other parts of Nigeria by Buhari foot soldiers called Fulani herdsmen? Why didn't they protest against the wicked selling of Ajaokuta steel complex and Itakpe to an Alhaji APC Sponsor for peanut? These are even worse fraud and crime against humanity than any other. If Fayose is named as beneficiary of the arms deal money, no big deal. When he leaves office, he can be prosecuted by government as spelt out in our Constitution. Why the hurry?
