UK, US, others call for violence-free poll in Rivers

The United Kingdom, United States, France and the European Union have called on the leadership of all political parties and their supporters to eschew violence and allow a crisis-free election in Rivers State.


The Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed Saturday, December 10 (today) for the rerun National and State Assembly elections in the state.

The ambassadors of the three countries to Nigeria and the EU envoy in a joint statement on Friday in Abuja, noted the rising tension in the state and encouraged INEC and the security agencies to perform their duties “responsibly and impartially.”
