RIvers United Beat Villarreal In Spain Tour Friendly


NPFL 2016 Super-4 champions, Rivers United beat Spanish side, Villareal B team 1-0 in the opening fixture of their Spain tour on Wednesday.


Ivorian forward, Guy Kuemian scored the solitary for Rivers United winner in the 24th minute.

The two teams started the game on an impressive note moving the around with confidence.

Villarreal nearly took the lead in the 10th minute when Gabriel Wassa lost the ball in a dangerous position, but Rivers United captain Austine Festus cleared the danger.

Nzube Anaezaemba came close to scoring the game's first goal in the 25th minute but his 25 yards shot was saved by Nico Campuzano.

Kuemian broke the deadlock when he headed home from Bernard Ovoke's corner kick in the 24th minute.

Three minutes later, Fernando Nino came close to equalizing for Villarreal but his goal-bound effort was well saved by Rotimi Sunday.

Emeka Ogbugh thought he had got the second for his side six minutes before the break but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Ogbugh also had another goal ruled out for offside on the hour mark.

Unknown forward, Elvis Wike missed the chance to get the second for the Pride of Rivers on 90 minutes shooting wide from Wassa's cross with only the goalkeeper to beat.
