Police to deploy 25,000 officers for Rivers rerun

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Idris Abubakar has approved the deployment of twenty-five thousand police officers for this Saturday’s rerun election in Rivers state.

This was disclosed by the Rivers state Commissioner of Police, CP Francis Odesanya, at a meeting held with stakeholders in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

CP Odesanya said the twenty-five thousand police officers deployed for the election include: conventional, Police mobile, police marine, police air wing and other tactical units.

He said the deployment is meant to prevent the breakdown of order on election day.

CP Odesanya also warned that the Police will not hesitate to clampdown on any individual found with arms.

He stated that the security detail of all Politicians and VIPs in the the state will be withdrawn on the eve of the election, adding that any Police officer found with a politician will be dealt with.

“The IGP Idris Kpotun has been magnanimous enough to approve the deployment of 25,000 policemen including Special tactical unit and Anti terrorism squad for the election to offer protection to both the state and outside the state.
