Oscar to become world's highest paid player

Oscar will be swapping the King's Road for a king's ransom when he moves to China next month.
The Chelsea midfielder is set to complete a £52million transfer to Shanghai SIPG in January, a deal that is as lucrative as it is astonishing.

The impending transfer will see the Brazil international become the highest-paid player in the world on approximately £400,000 a week - that's £20.8m per year. Or, if you prefer, £57,143 per day. Or £2,381 per hour. Or £39 per minute.

No wonder he was seen out enjoying a party at luxury fashion designer Philipp Plein's London boutique on Thursday night.

The eye-watering figures will see him earn around £35,000 a week more than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and £54,000 a week more than Ronaldo's Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale. (These figures are, however, understood to be their earnings after tax, rather than before tax, although this is disputed by some.)

Luis Suarez signed a new deal with Barcelona on Friday, with wages of £230,000 per week. Staggeringly, this does not even put the former Liverpool striker among the footballing world's top 10 earners.

Oscar's wages will see him smash China's current record too. His soon-to-be team-mate at Shanghai SIPG, Hulk, earns £317,000 a week after putting pen to paper with the Chinese outfit in June.
English football's highest earner is Paul Pogba, whose £89m summer return to Manchester United from Juventus sees him earn £290,000 per week or £15m per year.
