Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Thursday stormed Zenith Bank in Ado Ekiti to withdraw money from his bank accounts earlier frozen by the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission.

His action followed the judgment of a Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti which ordered the bank to immediately unfreeze the accounts after condemning the action of the EFCC.

Fayose, who arrived the bank premises located on Onigari-Secretariat Road junction in the state capital, stayed in the banking hall for about two hours before emerging with two black cellophane bags containing the N5 million he withdrew from the two accounts.

Armed with copies of the court judgment which ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Zenith Bank to immediately de-freeze the accounts, Fayose served the copies of the judgment on the branch manager, Mojeed Adekunle to effect the withdrawal.

Adekunle told the governor that his bank had received a copy of the judgment and would obey the order.

Thereafter, the process to release the cash began after Fayose submitted a cheque already written.

While Fayose was inside, a large crowd of residents milled around the bank while some customers were temporarily denied entry by bank security officials before they were later allowed in.

Fayose, Chief Security Officer, Gbenga Joseph, engaged one of the Zenith security men in a shouting match for attempting to deny him (Joseph) entry when his principal was inside.

Reason later prevailed as the bank’s security officer left the scene while Joseph took over the bank’s security door.

Mobile and regular policemen and outriders and journalists who accompanied Fayose stood outside the bank and their presence attracted residents’ attention.

The governor was in the bank premises between 1:20 p.m. and 3: 20 p.m.

Speaking with journalists after he had collected his cash, Fayose accused the EFCC of “rascality.”

Fayose said: “I came to the bank after serving them with the court order and I made up my mind that I won’t leave the bank until my money is given to me. And the bank has done the needful by giving me part of the money confirming that they have obeyed the court order.

“I want to thank Nigerians and my supporters for believing in our cause that Nigerians should not be oppressed. The rascality of EFCC must stop. And I want to thank the EFCC for obeying the court order.”

  9. It is only Yoruba people that always condemn their own because they believe in sanity. But my question is, assuming that Fayose stole this money, is it only him? What of other Governors in other states. We only like to kill our own people whereas other regions are stealing money which they continue to enjoy. It is only a fool that preaches sanity in the midst of mad/insane/foolish people. By the time other region finish Nigeria money your eyes will clear.

  10. Where is the #6.07tr 2016 budget? They told us as at september/October that they've achieved 75% budget implementation of which by now they must have achieved above 90% budget implementation, is there anything to show for the money they've spent so far? Despite all the money they claimed to have spent, Nigeria is still sinking deeper into recession.
Those of you shouting hoax about fayose, my question is, who is innocent among all the politicians in nigeria including PMB?

Fayose knows his people, understands their pain and at his level, he's trying to alleviate or cushion the effects of poverty and hardships caused, not by him, but your president on the nation. WHAT HAS YOUR OWN GOVERNOR DONE?
