Ethnic nationalities protest prosecution of Jonathan’s family.

COALITION of Ethnic Nationalities across the six geo-political zones of the country yesterday stormed the National Assembly protesting alleged persecution of some members of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s  family by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The protesters were, however, chased away by the Police from the premises of the National Assembly. The group comprising Ijaw Youths, Ohaneaze Ndigbo youths, Arewa Youth Consultative forum, Yoruba Youth Council, among others,  relocated to the  Federal Secretariat for the protest, where they expressed displeasure over the ongoing trial of former First Lady, Patience Jonathan and  cousin to the former President, Roberts Azibaola and his wife, Stella,  by the EFCC on what they described as phantom charges.

The protesters, who displayed placards with various inscriptions, berated  the   anti-graft agency alleging that operatives of EFCC,  DSS, and NDLEA had twice invaded the Abuja residence of the former first lady, in her absence without any formal notice or warrant to that effect. In a joint communiquĂ©  issued by leaders of the various groups to the leadership of the National Assembly, they appealed to the National Assembly to call EFCC to order and urged the lawmakers to make the anti-graft agency adhere strictly to the principle of Rule of Law in any of its operations being an agency set up by an Act of Parliament.
