Presidency reacts to execution of Nigerian by Singaporean govt

The Presidency has described the imminent execution of Chijioke Obioha by Singaporean government for a drug-related offence as gut-wrenching.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa in a statement said that the planned execution was heartbreaking despite repeated warnings to Nigerians to obey the laws of the land of their host countries.

She said nothing could be done since Singapore determined to enforce its laws as a deterrent to drug trafficking, which has reduced as a result of its stringent capital punishment.

"While we regret the death of the Nigerian, we once again appeal to Nigerians to avoid crimes like drug trafficking with most countries especially in Asia declaring zero tolerance for drug trafficking.", Dabiri-Erewa stated.

Chijoke Obioha was caught in Singapore trafficking in hard drugs on December 30, 2008 with his execution slated for Friday November 18.

He was arrested with more than 2.6 kilograms of cannabis, surpassing the statutory amount of 500 grams presumed as drug trafficking in Singapore on April 9, 2007

  1. The Igbos have been the ones tainting the image of Nigeria all over the globe and will turn back and call our country a zoo?
If you look at the classes of babies factories, fake drugs and adulterated products, trickery, etc you'll find the Igbos there.
A visit to the jails and detention centers in countries like SA, Thailand, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Europe... The list are endless, it is the Igbos in majority. Money money money is all that matters, to them it is simply business. You may be fooled if you pay a visit to any market in Ikoku-Mlie 3, Orile-Mile2,Alaba Intl. Yaba, or Oshodi Head Bridge - Oppiweka, Bata market -kano etc during lunch hour and find some groups of people singing praising and preaching the word of God (usually the stalls are semi closed at this time) and thinking that Oh! These Igbo traders must be devout Christians/Catholics they will not cheat you into buying fake goods at the price of genuine one, then you are a fool. To them praise singing and praying inside their stalls does not stop them from doing business and cheating you in the process.

The Igbos do not ask or bother where and how you made your money... The important thing is that "the boy has landed" as customary even in their villages when they go for Christmas not bothered even if the boy left village in January with only a Ghana -Must -Go bag but came back home in December with a G-63 Wagon Benz Jeep.
This attitude of their people to wealth is what is fuelling the criminal behaviors of Igbos who travels to Asia and Europe.
The truth might be bitter and Igbo readers may be angry or annoyed , but deep down inside they know that this is the truth. This is the time to tell themselves some home truth. Ka Chine mezie oku.
