PICTURES: Borno State Govt sponsors wedding of 100 less privileged couples, set to wed IDPs widows

Hon Kashim Shettima, the Borno State Governor,  on Saturday, 19th November stood as the father to 100 Women in a special wedding ceremony at the Government House Maiduguri.

The special marriage ceremony of less privileged in the state was an initiative of the State APC Women Leader Hon Fati Kake'nna who stood as the Bride's Mother.

The Chief Imam of Borno Imam Zannah Laisu Mohammed performed the marital procedures according to Islamic rites. Governor Kashim Shettima sponsored all the marital requirements, provided the Brides with all Households equipments and Cash for skill acquisition support. The Grooms were also supported with cash and food items.



His Excellency Governor Kashim Shettima was represented by the Secretary to the state Government Alhaji Jidda Shuwa who was accompanied by the APC State Chairman Hon Alh Ali Dalori, APC State Secretary Alh Bello Ayuba , COS Hon Modu Alhaji Musa, APC Vice Chairman zone A, Alh Baba Kura Habib , APC Stakeholders. Meanwhile, there is a project in place by the Borno state Government to wed IDPs Widows in a similar passion, which is expected to take up in December or January.

  1. Good initiative by the State Government to prevent an explosion of prostitution. When widows and their kids are left on their own to cater and fend for themselves and their families, the result is prostitution. A solution is to get the ones willing to remarry to be under the care and protection of a man.
    This was the major reason the explosion of prostitution among widows of fallen soldiers who were condemned to themselves after the end of the Nigerian Civil War and those who were still old enough to remember will attest to this fact.
