Osinbajo visits Super Eagles, Super Falcons' training sessions

Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo visited the Super Eagles and Super Falcons’ training sessions yesterday and charged teams to make the country proud as they engaged in different competitions this month.

While the Vice president tasked the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup billed for Russia, he demanded that the female team return with the African Women Cup of Nations, AWCON, from Cameroon.

Osinbajo, who visiting the Abuja national Stadium, the training ground of both teams, commended the three-time African champions for beating Zambia at home in October, while assuring them of the government’s support all through their qualifying campaign.

The Super Eagles will welcome the Desert Warriors to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, while Cameroon and Zambia will slug it out in the other Group B game.

Osinbajo said, “I commend you for your patriotism and commitment to the cause of fatherland.

“By going to Zambia to defeat the Zambians on their own ground for the first time, you have shown your determination to conquer your group and qualify for the World Cup.

“I want to assure you that the Government and people of Nigeria are behind you in your quest to qualify for the World Cup. I believe that you will certainly pick the ticket from your group to make it to the World Cup finals.”

He also charged the Super Falcons, who will be defending their AWCON title in Cameroon later this month to return home with the trophy.

“I am happy that you girls are the reigning African champions, and I believe you will go to Cameroon and retain your trophy. The whole nation is behind you,” he continued.

“You must start by beating Mali and then going all the way so as to bring the Cup back to Nigeria.”
