Only best brains needed in public sector - Saraki

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Friday said the nation should create a system that allows its best brains to take over the public sector and make it work for Nigerians.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onogu, disclosed that Saraki made the call while presenting the keynote address at the inaugural National Chevening Alumni Leadership Summit, organised by the British High Commission and the Nigeria Chevening Alumni Association in Lagos.

According to the statement, Saraki said while the practice across the world is to allow the best brains to go into the public sector, in Nigeria, the most qualified people struggle to join the private sector.

Saraki was quoted as saying “the most educated and skilled people should take over governance and help to convert the numerous God-given resources to genuine development for Nigeria and Nigerians.

“We are here today to explore ‘The Economic prosperity of Nigeria and the role of alumni in contributing to economic growth.”

  1. Who would employ the dull brains that make up 85% of the public sector. With JAMB set to lower the cut-off mark, how would the country even have bright brains going forward. Bright brains want to work hard. The public sector is for people who cannot cope with competition and also people who want to give 90% of their time to their children, thus the reason why late coming and early closure is a natural for a public servant. Saraki is seeking an impossible thing in Nigeria.

  3. Sarki is very correct. The major reason why we are in this quagmire is because we recruited mediocre people whose sole intention is to line the pockets with the lucre of office. Morons now lead intelligent people and the result is devastating!

  6. You should leave there first to allow for bright brains. But we see you ppl present are Bright brains like the minister of sports who said we should stop wasting money on world cup qualifiers cos he feels we can't win it, finance minister who has been so prolific in her duties with no vision of which monetary policies can help us out of our present dilemma , Emiefele who implemented policies only to later remember that ppl pay school fees, health care, business with FX, your VP who as head of economic team has not come up with any viable option of how to get out of this so call recession (where Senate wants N3.6b for car after their more than 20m monthly pay. Akwa Ibom pays Pele $300,000USD to come to opening of a stadium, Edo state legislature wants N200m and N100m houses for Governor and deputy respectively) than for us to go birrowing.brains like Senators who knows how to pad Budget and forge signatures bla bla bla. We know the kind of brains you mean. Alika.
