Nigerians tell Wole Soyinka to cut green card, leave US following Trump's victory

Following the stunning victory of Republican candidate, Donald Trump over media-favourite, Hillary Clinton, early on Wednesday, in the just-concluded United States Presidential election, cross section of Nigerians have taken to the social media, calling on Nobel Laureate, Playwright and Poet, Professor Wole Soyinka to cut his green card and leave the US.

Soyinka, had last week, while speaking to students at a seminar, in Oxford University’s Ertegun House, said that he would tear his green card and leave the US, if Republican standard-bearer, Donald Trump is elected President of the United States.

Soyinka, who is scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of African American Affairs this autumn said: “If in the unlikely event he (Trump) does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US.

Well, I’m not waiting for that. The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.” With the emergence of Trump, Nigerian social media users are now calling on Soyinka to fulfill his words.

  2. If Soyinka at his age and standing fails to do what he used the mouth he uses to eat amala and ewedu and also drink emu to say openly to the young student, tell me the kind of legacy and example he and his generation are leaving for the young generation. I don't want to hear that he was speaking metaphorically... that is how apc promised heaven and earth only to turn to excuses and blame game.
He must tear it metaphorically too. Apc has instituted deceit, lies, manipulation, hanky panky dealing and insincerity mentality in many Nigeria. It is sad! Even you Kongo! It is a shame! This is one of APC government legacy and achievement so far.
    Sai Baba!
    Sai Soyinka!
