Nigeria in danger of missing 2018 World Cup as Giwa drags NFF to Supreme Court

The Super Eagles’ seemingly smooth ride to the 2018 World Cup, may be in jeopardy after it emerged that embattled chairman of Giwa FC, Chris Giwa, has concluded plans to drag the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to the Supreme Court, seeking to remove the Amaju Pinnick-led board.

According to reports, Giwa has directed his legal team to file a prayer at the Supreme Court next week.

If it is granted by the apex court, it will might mean disaster for the national teams.

FIFA had rejected Giwa’s bid to unseat Pinnick as NFF President and almost banned the country, after Giwa took his case to the Federal High Court in Jos. Nigeria escaped with a warning after Giwa withdrew the case.

The world football governing body frowns at disputes being taken to ordinary law courts.

Nigeria are currently top of their World Cup qualifying group with six points, after victories over Zambia and Algeria.
