Live Commentary: Nigeria 3-1 Algeria

Good evening and welcome to Nigerianeye's live commentary of the World Cup qualifying clash between Nigeria and Algeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Plenty of passion greets the playing of our two national anthems, in front of a spirited crowd here in Uyo, eager for the Super Eagles to cruise to victory

The players are making their way out on to the field, so we should be underway shortly.

That being said, when Nigeria and Algeria meet, form tends to go out the window. Fire and enthusiasm takes centre-stage between Africa’s giants and this evening should be no different.

Nigeria have scored seven goals in their last five games, whereas Algeria have scored 19 goals in their last five outing. Hope this wont be a scary factor for the three-time African champions?

Georges Leekens’ men are in dire need of a victory this evening having been forced to a 1-1 draw by Cameroon in their last outing, while Gernot Rohr will be aiming to register his third consecutive win as Super Eagles boss.

OFFICIAL LINE UPS

NIGERIA: Akpeyi, Balogun, Echiejile, Troost-Ekong, Omeruo, Iwobi, Mikel, Onazi, Moses, Etebo, Iheanacho

ALGERIA: M’Bolhi – Ziti, Ghoulam, Belkaroui, Mandi – Medjani (captain), Taider, Bentaleb – Mahrez, Brahimi, Slimani

Algeria were far from convincing this evening, as a brace from Victor Moses and John Obi guided the Super Eagles over the Greens. The visitors were made to rue a series of missed chances, especially at the start of the second half and were made to pay by the home side. Thanks for joining our live coverage of the match.

FULL-TIME: NIGERIA 3-1 ALGERIA

90' + 4 - The referee ends the contest.

90' + 2 - VICTOR MOSES...Good positioning, fine finish and Super Eagles are home and dry.

92 - GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Nigeria 3 - 1 Algeria (Victor Moses Scores For Nigeria)

87 - Ahmed Musa sneaks in but he fails to hit target, Nigeria now on the front foot

86 - Etebo is brought down, free kick for Nigeria in a good position

85 - OFFSIDE! Sumptuous build-up play from the hosts, as a string of terrific passes sees Iheanacho played through on the right, before sending a ball across for Ahmed Musa at the far post, but the substitute has been punished for being in an offside position

82 - Danger averted for the Super Eagles after minutes of pressure on the defence. First, it was Yacine Brahimi's freekick from a near arear before another corner kick as the Green chase an equaliser

79 - Iheanacho makes a good run down the left flank and cuts the ball back into the middle for Moses, but the Chelsea star fails to make contact to the lofted cross in the box.

76 - Free kick to Nigeria after John Obi Mikel was fouled by an Algeria. Both teams still have a lot to play for as result could still go either way

73 - Nigeria are looking fairly dejected after conceding a goal. To mention here, the Super Eagles have been made to pay for their lack of clinical edge in front of goal. They have to ensure that this result does not become out of hand. Ahmed Musa comes in for Alex Iwobi

71 - Algeria change - Abeid Mehdi in for Carl Medjani

70 - Nigeria caught offside, free kick to Algeria

70 - Chance missed as Elderson Echiejile punished for being in an offside position. The Greens are in dire need of a win here not minding the scoreline as they make a change

67 - Algeria get a deserved goal through Bentaleb from about 25 metres. Akpeyi was well beaten. It is now game on...

67 - GOAL! Nigeria 2 - 1 Algeria (Nabil Bentaleb Scores For Algeria)

62 - Victor Moses swings his freekick an in the process Kenneth Omeruo gets injured after a clash of heads with an Algerian defender. Nothing serious as Omeruo gets back to his feet while Algeria press harder for goal

58 - Taider of Algeria shoots at Nigeria goal, but it is off the mark, but still a good effort

57 - Yacine Brahimi has been pepering the Nigeria defence from the left side with his pace and trickery as Algeria peg Nigeria in their own half

56 - Algeria win a second corner

55 - Victor Moses gives away a freekick, Saphir Taïder takes it and Algeria win a corner kick in the process.

52 - Nabil Bentaleb gets the first caution of game after upending Victor Moses with the resulting freekick kicked over the crossbar. At the other end, Mahrez’ attempt was blocked by Leon Balogun . Elsewhere, Ogenyi Onazi has been stretchered out owing to injury. Lets hope he returns to action soon.

49 - Etebo makes a vital block at the near post to deny Brahimi. Algeria carve Nigeria apart again down the left, but the Algerian cannot take the opportunity as he fails to fire past Akpeyi

47 - Good news for the Super Eagles as Zambia ended their tie 1-1 with Cameroon and as it stands Nigeria top Group B with six points, four ahead of Cameroon who are in second place

46 - A Nigeria side in high spirits gets this second half underway...

Victor Moses sent a missile past the Greens goalkeeper to give Nigeria the lead, before Mikel doubled the advantage just before the interval, dealing a real blow to Algeria’s hopes of a comeback. It was a first half bereft of much excitement, save for two moments of brilliance, both provided by the home side, who have a commanding lead to show for it in the latest edition of the African clasico.

45 - HALF TIME: NIGERIA 2-0 ALGERIA

45+1 - Nigeria gift Algeria a chance to pull a goal back but somehow the Algerian player smashes his effort from deep inside away from the target

45 - There will a minute of additional time

43 - The Eagles are good value for their comfortable lead. Mikel almost bungled it though,  believing he was offside when ono-on-one with keeper Mbolhi. But the flag stays down and he expertly slots in. The fans are buzzing!

42 - Nigeria score again and the scorer is Mikel, who rolled the ball home after a moment of hesitation. Television replays later showed  the Eagles captain was put on side by a last Algeria defender

41 - GOAL! Nigeria 2 - 0 Algeria (Mikel Obi)

36 - What a miss! How can Yacine Brahimi miss an empty net. Mahrez capitalises on a blunder from Kelechi Iheanacho and sends it to the FC Porto player who fails to punish the Super Eagles' horrible backline with Daniel Akpeyi only to beat

33 - Nigeria have not settled since taking the lead and the visitors are doing all the pressing at the moment. Rohr will not be pleased with his side's display since edging ahead, with Iheanacho particularly not at the top of his game.

28 - Moses is brought down again 35 yards from goal, and this time John Obi Mikel will be able to strike an effort at goal.

26 - Moses is yellow-carded for his celebration for taking his shirt off, but the Chelsea man won't care. He waded through the Algeria defence before confidently shooting past Mbolhi for the goal. The fans are still celebrating. Vuvuzelas going off everywhere

24 - Victor Moses opens scoring for Nigeria

24 - GOAL! Nigeria 1 - 0 Algeria (Victor Moses)

19 - Moses has switched to the left but still causing Algeria problems. He tricks an Algerian into a foul but the freekick comes to nothing as Mikel shoots wide.

18 - It remains Nigeria 0 Algeria 0

15 - Leon Balogun wins the ball in the middle of the park and Mikel releases the run of Iwobi. The Arsenal man has space and time to pick out a team-mate but lifts his cross over every white and green shirt in the area. Still a goalless affair in Uyo

12 - Neither side has been able to get into much of a rhythm, with a wealth of stoppages, mostly due to fouls, consistently disrupting the run of play. Normally this is where the commentator would say the game is in need of a goal to open it up, but at this point a shot on target would be a start.

9 - Excellent defending from Hicham Belkaroui who clears the defence line as Nigeria get a throw in. Game in play and the north Africans now seem contented sitting in their own half.

6 - The frantic tempo has fizzled out a bit as Nigeria start to take control of possession, but are being kept to the periphery by Algeria's defensive approach. It's quite the intriguing midfield battle going on, with Etebo dropping deep to provide an option for Moses and Iheanacho. Moses with the first chance but shoots wide

4 - Nigeria put together on the edge of Algeria's "18" but Iheanacho's shot is blocked

2 - The tackles are already flying,Mikel is brought down just outside his own penalty box

1 - We're underway and Nigeria with the kick-off
