How Bukola Saraki Saved Super Eagles From Embarrassment

Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki and chairman Senate Committee on Sports Obinna Ogba saved what could have been an embarrassing moment for the country ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria last Saturday as they used their clout to bail the Nigeria Football Federation out of financial difficulties.

With four days to the game, it was learnt that the NFF had no money to prosecute the game as the money expected from the Federal Government was not yet out.

If not for the intervention of Ogba who contacted Saraki so that the funds could be released, the situation would have been chaotic,” a source in the federation told newsmen.

When contacted, Ogba confirmed the role he played, staying he felt embarrassed when he learnt of the NFF’s precarious situation. He said he had to get his leader in the Senate involved so as to facilitate the release of the money.

Ogba said the Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung could not do much when contacted and he had to take further steps to save the situation in the interest of the country.

“When Amaju Pinnick informed me about the situation I contacted the Minister of Sports but when he was not forthcoming, I had to call the Minister of Finance myself and the Director General of the Budget Office and before I left Abuja, the NFF had gotten their money and we are happy about the outcome,” Ogba said.

  1. So what he is saying in essence is that the minister of sports is incompetent. Amaju had to go to the senate instead of his minister. Also, the minister didn't know his left from his right when conversing with the chairman senate committee on sports. Now, that's the full practical definition of incompetence. In the words of Donald Trump, HE IS FIRED!!!
