Buhari won’t gag the press - Presidency

The Presidency on Sunday promised that in grappling with the task of revamping the nation’s economy, President Muhammadu Buhari would not gag the press.

It said the present administration was committed to freedom of the press, transparency and accountability.

According to a statement by a Deputy Director (Information), State House, Mr. Abiodun Oladunjoye, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said this when the leadership of the State House Press Corps met with him and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, to introduce new leaders of the corps.

Adesina recalled that the new leader of the corps, Mr. Ubale Musa, was expelled from the Presidential Villa, Abuja in the twilight of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

He noted that Musa only had his accreditation restored by the Buhari administration to demonstrate the belief of the administration in freedom of the press.

He reiterated the belief of the President that Nigeria can only be great if Nigerians shun all forms of corruption, greed and selfishness in their actions.
