Anti-Trump protests continue in US

An anti-Donald Trump protester has been shot during a demonstration early Saturday morning in Portland, Oregon, police have said.

The man was taken to the hospital after the shooting, which took place took place on the Morrison Bridge in Portland around 1am on Saturday, and the gunman is still on the loose.

Protester Cameron Whitten, who witnessed the incident, said he saw four men get out of a car who looked ‘menacing’ and one of them had a gun.

The group then got back in the car and after a short period of time, the man with the gun came back out of the car and fired ‘five or six’ warning shots into the air, Whitten said.

‘I saw somebody fall on the ground and then they sped to the east side….

“I don’t know who (the victim) is but he is conscious and breathing, he was shot near his thigh,’ Whitten told the station.

He says he believes ‘a man jumped out with an automatic rifle’ and then drove off but Whitten is able to video the car’s license plate before it speeds away.

Moments later, he frantically says: ‘The car has stopped. He’s back out with a gun. A big, scary gun. Four men are out with their guns.’

Within seconds gunshots ring out. ‘Did someone get shot? I think someone got shot,’ he says on the stream.

Chaos breaks out on the bridge as hundreds of protesters yell. Whitten walks up to the man who was shot as several people tend to the victim and ask for space.

It takes only seconds before police are at the scene tending to the victim.

Whitten says in the video the man looks like he’s in pain but is calm and ‘is very brave’.

Police later confirmed the shooting in a statement. +
