Why Amaechi, other ministers are not being probed for corruption - Presidency

Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, Okoi Obono-Obla, in an interview published by Premium Times defended Buhari's ministers against allegations of corruption levelled against them.

"They have said there are some bad eggs in the executive. All what I see is a spate of speculative allegations. If you have anything against any member of the executive bring it out, concrete information on wrongdoing or corruption. They always mention Rotimi Amaechi, Babatunde Fashola and the Minister of Interior, Dambazau.

According to him, they are not being probed because there is no concrete evidence of corruption against them.

"Let’s take the case of Amaechi. Amaechi was governor of Rivers State for eight years. If the Rivers State government truly believe that Amaechi committed a crime or was corrupt why can’t the attorney general of the state that is vested with the power to prosecute anybody in the state who has committed an offence against the laws of the state not prosecute Amaechi? Why is he passing the buck to the federal government? Where is the evidence that Amaechi was corrupt apart from the politics of maliciousness and vindictiveness? They simply drag the federal government into these things simply because some of them do not want Amaechi to be appointed.

"If anybody has concrete allegation against Amaechi let him send it to the EFCC and pursue it and ensure that EFCC does the right thing. The president is not EFCC or ICPC. Send these reports to EFCC or ICPC to take action and if the president is blocking these allegations then you can go home and say the president is selective or he is protecting Amaechi.

"The allegation against the minister of interior is that he has property abroad; it is not that he stole from this government. He was in government when the president was an opposition leader. So if the evidence is there that he bought the property let them come out with petition and bring to the ministry of justice and let them tell us where the property are and then we start investigating him. I can tell you that nobody is protecting anybody. But it is not just to make any allegation against somebody because you want to rope in somebody or because you want to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it.

  4. Mister man! Are u high or something? Are u telling me that the mountain of petitions to EFCC against Amaechi are not enough for him to be probed? I am not surprised at all because those who are deeply corrupt will never see anything corrupt about their associates. This government stinks

  5. This man is a puppet...all the allegations that Fayose wrote about Fayemi to EFCC what happened. All the judicial inquiry report about Amaechi to EFCC what happened and yet you ask people to still petition.

  7. We should leave judgement for God on every living being. if politicians are to be judged, no one will escape the wrath of God. Have you ever asked yourself why the same party with manifestos keep promising you light, water, Road etc every four years without fulfilling their political promises? Rome can never be build in one day

  8. Talking this way can never save nor help us as a Nation. This is another challenge to those of us calling for Amaechi to be probed. If you have any concrete evidence against Amaechi bring it up. Why are you guys trying and convicting Amechi on the media. This is too bad. Please know that Wike is the Governor of Rivers State, and his attorney general and justice commissioner is there. Let them initiate a court process and serve Amechi, let him Amechi not honour it, let's see. This is even a very good time to take Amechi to court as all the judges will be ever Ready and eager to preside over Amechi's case and jail him immediately. You guys are just making fool of yourselves trying to die for politicians. Or have you also forgotten that Wike was Local Government Council Chairman and later Secretary to Rivers State Government. Maybe his own hands are soiled. Guys watch your back. Please leave politicians alone to do what they know how to do best.

  9. We know, assuming it is Fayose, FFK, Dasuki, Nnamdi Kanu, Olisa Metu, or Judges, that kick against the present oppression, the allegations would be concrete. No need to sugar coat the issue, Buhari once said on national television that all his cabinet members are Saints. So don't burder ur self Mr Aide to the President.

  13. Even CNN once reported Amaechi as the most corrupt Governor ever. A corruption fighting Government would even have started their probe of Amaechi with information from CNN.
Keep waiting for Nigerians. Even before Amaechi left office as Governor of Rivers State there were allegations.
Who gave you the facts you used to implicate the judges. Pity all of you in APC think Nigerians are dunces.

  15. Nothing anyone says will make Buhari probe Amaechi. The reason is simple, the man gave billions of Naira to the Buhari campaign Organisation! The president cannot bite the very fingers that fed him. Period.
