We Would Fly Injured Rangers’ Striker Ifeanyi Egwim To Europe For Treatment - Gov. Ugwuanyi

An emotional executive governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has told players and officials of the Coal City Flying Antelopes not to brood over striker Ifeanyi Egwim's fracture injury in Sunday's NPFL final day win over El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, as the government will sponsor his treatment in Europe.

Egwim came into the game in the 81 minutes after replacing Ocheme Edoh but eight minutes later, he was taken straight to hospital after fracturing his left shin in a challenge with the goalkeeper of El-Kanemi, Kazeem Yekini.

"Don't dispair, we will fly him abroad for proper treatment," governor Ugwuanyi told fear-stricken Rangers players and officials at the sight of the player's injury.

Meanwhile, the Flying Antelope's forward, Chisom Egbuchulam was emotionally upset despite scoring a hat-trick and going home with the final day match ball.

Egbuchulam scored twice from the penalty spot on the night to claim his second hat-trick of the season, but said that there was nothing to celebrate about the hat-trick with his teammate down and out with career-threatening fracture injury.

"If there is anything to be happy about, it is the fact that Rangers have won the league title and broken a 32-year yoke," Egbuchulam said to Completesportsnigeria.com.

"Besides, we're part of this achivement but then, it does not call for joy that I scored three goals with my fellow striker suffering a serious injury," he added as he forded the sea of heads out after the trophy presentation.
