Victor Ikpeba blames Omeruo for Zambia’s goal against Nigeria

Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Ikpeba, has blamed Kenneth Omeruo for the goal the team conceded in their win over Zambia on Sunday.

Nigeria began their 2018 World Cup qualifying series, with a 2-1 victory over the Chipolopolo in Ndola.

Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scored for the Eagles, before a defensive mix-up allowed Collins Mbesuma to pull one back. Gernot Rohr’s men held on to take all three points at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Ikpeba, who is also a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee, said the goal Carl Ikeme conceded should not have happened.

“He’s (Kenneth Omeruo) timing was poor. The goalkeeper had no fault. He should have cleared his lines,” Ikpeba said during his analysis after the game.

“Ikeme was brilliant in goal for the Eagles and the Zambians didn’t play well in the first half and could not curtail the nice inter-play of the Nigerian forwards Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Mikel Obi”, he added.

Nigeria welcomes Algeria in their next Group B game on November 7.
