Update: Fayose shuts down Access Bank for detaining Fani-Kayode's wife

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State on Monday forced Access Bank to shut down its operations in the state.

Mr. Fayose's extraordinary action came after bank officials prevented the wife of the former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, from drawing funds from the flagged account.

Mr. Fani-Kayode's wife was said to have arrived in Ekiti and attempted to withdraw funds from an account linked to slush provided by detained former National Security Adviser, Dasuki. The account is part of the subject of the former Aviation minister's ongoing prosecution for fraud at a Federal High Court in Lagos, Sahara Reporters gathered.

Security officials concluded that an account opened at Access Bank by one "Sonia Chikwendu Precious," with account number 0024425113, was linked to money laundering. The account was flagged after security and anti-corruption agents determined that it was one of the several accounts into which another former minister, Esther Usman Nenadi, paid illicit funds.

In his response, Fani-Kayode in an angry-laden tone accused the government of being sick and cowardly as the EFCC.

It would be recalled that Mr. Fani-Kayode in 2007 allegedly used a girlfriend of his Chioma Anasoh to launder money, specifically on June 27th, 2007 Chioma was arrested with $240,000 said to be cash belonging to Fani-Kayode.

She was arrested after boarding a plane to travel on a British Airways flight to London from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

  4. These efcc are useless, when an account cannot be withdrawn from then why border yourself with it than to go and detain someone's wife. And how can you link someone's husband's crime with his wife. You want to render them moniless. This is wickedness and the govt is using them to hunt people down and cripple them. If case is close then close it and leave them alone but if it's not closed yet then prosecute the husband fast. Why joking.

    1. Do you know what you are saying? If truely Fani kayode has nothing to do with the account, how come her wife has the details or access to the account and the boldness to withdraw from it? Also note that the account was opened with individual's name - Sonia Chinwendu Precious and not company name. So, is either the wife is the Sonia the owner of the account or an accomplice of Fani-Kayode in the Dasuki-gates saga.
Do you want to tell me that his wife did not know that the account in question has been flagged/under investigation? Why did she not attempt to withdraw the money in any branch in Abuja or Lagos? Why Ado-Ekiti? Is she a resident of Ado-Ekiti? What project is she doing there that she needed money that cannot be withdrawn using ATM card?
It is a planned work and gov. Fayose is in the know of all the plans. They just tried to see if there will be security lapses in Ekiti State with the backing of the state governor. The governor - Fayose should remember that his governorship in the state is not forever!
