Nigeria To Play Friendly Match With Plateau United


Ahead of Sunday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Ndola, the Super Eagles will play a warm-up friendly against Plateau United on Wednesday.



The match according to a camp source will be used by the Eagles’ German coach Gernot Rohr to assess the fitness level of his team.

The game will also be used to try out various centre-back pairings and attacking options ahead of the away fixture.

Leo Balogun, Victor Moses and Isaac Success all pulled out of the fixture due to injuries.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has assured Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki of a great game when the Chelsea star leads the team against Zambia in a World Cup qualifier in Ndola this Sunday.

Mikel who has declared himself fit for the game amid reports he was nursing a muscle injury was hosted by Saraki in Abuja on Monday.

Saraki, the owner of a lower league football team, took to Twitter to share Mikel’s promise.

He wrote: “Had the pleasure of hosting @mikel_john_obi today and nice to get to know him off the pitch. Assures of a great game against Zambia.”

The Super Eagles are expected to hold their first training session at the main bowl of the Abuja National Stadium on Tuesday with not fewer than 11 players in camp.

Players in camp as at Monday night were Carl Ikeme, Emmanuel Daniel, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Elderson Echiejile, Jamiu Alimi, Ogenyi Onazi, Anderson Esiti, Moses Simon, Brown Ideye, Bobby Clement, Musa Muhammed and John Mikel Obi.
