Nigeria Military foils attempt to bomb Forcados terminal

An attempt by suspected Niger Delta militants to blow up a section of the Shell Petroleum Development Company Forcados Terminal in the Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State has been foiled by the Nigerian military.

Military sources revealed that the incident took place on Sunday around 2pm at the Ogulagha section of the terminal.

It was gathered that the militants had almost finished planting the suspected explosives on one of the export lines when they saw a military patrol boat and fled leaving behind the improvised explosive device.

This is coming barely four days after the Nigerian Navy also foiled a similar attempt by militants to bomb the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company and Pipeline Products Marketing Company in Ekpan area in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

One of our military sources said, “They came in two speed boats and were about fixing the bomb on the Forcados trunkline when they saw an approaching military gunboat. They quickly dropped the bomb and fled in their boats.”

The acting spokesman for the Joint Task Force codenamed Operation Delta Safe, Lt. Cmdr. Thomas Otuji, confirmed the incident.

He noted that the Operatives of Delta Safe attached to the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta foiled the attempt that would have been a major setback for oil production in the country.
