Giroud Makes Iwobi Play Better - Jenas

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes that Olivier Giroud spearheading Arsenal's attack always brings out the best of Nigeria youngster Alex Iwobi.

Following the absence of Giroud due to a toe injury, Alexis Sanchez has been featuring as Arsenal's centre forward.

But the big French striker returned as a second-half substitute in Arsenal's 2-0 win against Reading in the English Football League Cup on Tuesday.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live, while praising the squad depth in Arsenal this season, the former England international pointed out that aside from Iwobi, other Arsenal stars also improve with Giroud on the pitch.

"Every season there is a worry, 'what if Coquelin gets injured?' or 'what if Giroud gets injured?"Jenas said.

"Last week they completely changed their central midfield, they went from Xhaka to Elneny – Cazorla played there the week before. Coquelin came in [too].

"They've got the ability to do that now. I still think they're better with Giroud in the team.

"Only because he allows Sanchez, Iwobi, Walcott, Ozil – the three behind him – to play a lot better with him as a focal point."
