DSS frees arrested judges

The Department of State Service, DSS has released all the judges arrested over corruption during a nationwide sweep.

A DSS source to NE that the seven arrested judges were, Sunday, released on bail based on self-recognition.

“They were all released on bail yesterday(Sunday) on self recognition,” one of our sources said.

“They reported this morning (Monday) and they have all gone back home. They will be coming back tomorrow. And everything went very procedurally well and civil.

“They were released on bail on self recognition based on the fact that given their standing in the society, they cannot run away.

They were instructed that they should come back today by 10am.

“They did report for investigation this morning and they have gone back home. And the investigation continues and preparation to charge them to court continued.”

The source added, “Also, action was sequel to lack of cooperation by National Judicial Council. Such as refusal by the NJC to allow the affected persons to be questioned by the DSS. Investigation started some seven months ago, precisely in April 2016.”

The crackdown has continued to generate mixed reactions across the country.

  1. This is the height of cluelessness incompetence dictatorship witch hunt political vendetta arrogance and mockery of democracy and rule of law by this useless APC government.
You invaded a Judge's home, arrest him outside the law and you charge him to which court? A Court headed by another Judge who is a saint? All these actions are not known to law and the constitution in a democracy.
OK! Is this way a self professed Human Right Lawyer Falana was advocating for special court for corruption cases? Where people arrested at the whims and caprices of powers that be will be summarily tried and sent to jail with all the accompanying media trial. All the Judges arrested from the media reports so shows that the DSS has found them guilty already with the arrogance and manner in which they presented the so called evidence and exhibits in the media. The arrested Judges side of the story is not yet known.
So Falana will be so comfortable with this sad senerio abi?
So Let them form the special court or Tribunal and make Falana the head where senior Judges and Lawyers including others will be brought for him Falana to use his own Law and constitution to sent to jail. Or better make him use military tribunal law or to run his special court.
    Human Ko!

    3. More wisdom indeed! Since the judges side has not yet been told, then what is the basis for condemning the DSS? Bias, right? Let the judges defend themselves, media or no media, afterall they are judges, they know the law and you know nothing. Why are you crying more than the bereaved? Sting operations are the last resort and stop all this rule of law nonesense with which those who steal money use as a defence. It is here inNigeria that if you steal huge money, its even lawyers who will advise you not to run. Did the rule of law stop them from collecting bribe as alledged? Did the DSS not get search warrants to that effect. When they want to arrest them, then some come out and start screaming rule of law! Nonesense!!

  6. I'm disappointed by this government. Humiliating judges in the name of fighting corruption, the same judges are been use by the same government when favor fail out of them they went after them. Even if the judges are corrupt as calm. Is that the right way of treating people that has uphold rule of law in our nation. Haba kilode obogini weytin.

Few hours when ECOWAS order the release of detained NSA,APC order the creak down on Judges.

  7. Bail? I thought the visit to DSS was just an invitation for questioning? Was there any warrant truly? Since they claim they have publish let us see the judge that signed it. Since DSS can also publish amounts gotten from the raid, pls let us see the warrants!

  8. It is this kid glove attitude that has made corruption to rise to the present high level it is now. I think every peculiar situation should be treated peculiarly. This is the only way our judges would rum away from corruption and give fair and equitable judgement.

  10. Are judges above the law? if NJC failed to punish erring judge what now happen, the issue should just be sweep under the carpet? who say judges can not be arrested if need be? high time we stopped politicizing everything in this country, do u imagine the amount involved? millions of naira for God's sake and somebody is saying why are they arrested? God help Nigeria.

  11. Some people are really funny. So you suppose the DSS will move against judges, so called custodians of the law without all necessary considerations? And someone actually thinks he is knowledgeable putting that online. The judges are corrupt, simple! Anyone who is in possession of stolen public funds should be brought to book and by the way, are they not judges? Which one is your own, they are capable of defending themselves.

    1. That is precisely what happened. They did not think before breaking into the judges' houses like the Gestapo! If NJC is not working, does that give the DSS the constitutional right to take over their functions??
